Duty Manager

Herons Leisure Centre – Herne Bay
Full-time – 39 hours per week
£11.62 per hour.

Our Duty Managers are responsible for assisting the Centre Manager in the efficient and effective running of the Herons Leisure Centre, with a key focus on customer satisfaction, managing staff & the facility’s programme, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and the health and safety of both staff and customers.

We are looking for a confident, positive and motivated individual with previous experience in a supervisory role, preferably within the Leisure Industry. You’ll also need to be calm under pressure, responsible and experienced in ensuring set procedures are followed and monitored.

Excellent communication skills are also essential, as you’ll be looking after customers and managing employees.

You must hold Lifeguarding, First Aid at Work and Pool Plant Operator qualifications. You’ll also need to be able to work the contracted hours over a variable working week including evenings and weekends. Availability for cover will also be required.

Swimming Teachers

Become a Swim Teacher with Active Life and you will have the opportunity to instil a lifesaving skill; the ability to swim. As a Swim Teacher, you‘ll run sessions effectively and efficiently, setting up and maintaining equipment, undertaking appropriate administration and adhering to Active Life’s safeguarding policy.

Your main duties will include:
• Teaching lessons according to the programme timetable, ensuring classes commence and finish at the designated times
• Carrying out all administrative tasks associated with the position, including lesson plans, schemes of work, class registers and continuous assessment of pupils with Learn2 software

What you’ll need:
• A Level 2 Swim Teaching qualification
• Previous experience of effective teaching in a group setting
• Excellent verbal communication skills, particularly in relation to building trust and rapport with children and their parents
• The ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the swimming lesson programme
• A demonstrable passion and enthusiasm in your teaching.

Qualified Creche Assistant

Every weekday morning we open our Crèche where our customers’ pre-school children can be cared for whilst they use our facilities. We are looking for an experienced and qualified individual with a friendly and positive attitude to join our Crèche team.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Preparing the Crèche in advance of opening
• Keeping accurate records of the children attending the Crèche
• Providing consistent care and engaging play for the children
• Following policies and procedures to ensure the safety, welfare and enjoyment of the children
• Clearing away and cleaning on closing

What you’ll need:
• A Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in the field of Early Years Care & Education / Childcare
• To be experienced and capable in working with children and a genuine interest in doing so
• A friendly, professional and positive attitude
• To be reliable and flexible, smart and well presented

We are seeking enthusiastic, responsible and reliable individuals to join our team of Recreation Assistants at The Bay Sports Arena.  Located at Herne Bay High School, primarily you will be responsible for putting bowls mats away during the school day. Successful applicants may also be considered for additional weekday and evening hours, helping to deliver a wide range of sport and recreational activities to our customers, delivering excellent customer service and ensuring the highest standards of safety.

The role involves meeting and greeting our customers, providing excellent customer service, bookings, cash-handling and ensuring the smooth running of the Reception area.  As well as being the first point of contact, both face-to-face and via telephone enquiries, you will also undertake some administration and use our computerised booking system.

You will need to be customer focused, honest and organised with a professional, yet friendly manner. You should be able to think on your feet & remain calm under pressure. Previous experience in a customer-facing role and an aptitude for learning and using computerised till systems are desirable.

The gym can be an intimidating place – as a Gym Instructor at Active Life it’s down to you to make sure that all our customers are welcomed, encouraged and supported during their time in the gym. You’ll also be responsible for the safe use of the equipment and keeping the gym clean and inviting.
To be successful in this role you’ll need an engaging and honest personality, with a natural ability to build strong relationships and put people at ease. In addition, a “can-do” attitude and a real passion for fitness are essential.

You’ll also need:
• a Level 2 qualification in Fitness Instructing
• it would be an advantage if you also held a Level 3 Fitness qualification
Some of your duties will include:
• establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with your customers and colleagues
• supervising the Gym and operating the equipment in a manner consistent with safe working practice

Customer Service Advisors

Active Life’s Customer Service Advisors operate as the first point of contact for our customers, presenting a positive and professional service. First impressions are important, and as a Customer Service Advisor, you are responsible for providing a warm, positive and professional welcome to each customer, while delivering hygiene and safety activities. Customer Service Advisors also drive sales and customer retention, and get involved in selling our pre-packaged merchandise, and serving hot beverage refreshments to our customers.

The Role:
As a Customer Service Advisor, you’ll manage the customer database, proactively driving membership sales; and you’ll provide accurate information and assist customers in weighing up their options, selecting the right level of membership for them. You’ll also assist in the communication and promotion of the Centre’s services, and assist with lead generation. This is a results-driven role, where your natural ability to influence and persuade will shine through.

About You:
To be successful as a Customer Service Advisor you’ll need excellent verbal communication skills, and strong numerical and written skills, as you’ll be swiftly and accurately processing transactions, and ensuring the reception area and entry to the Centre is managed effectively and efficiently. Preferably you’ll have experience of delivering first-class customer service and achieving KPIs in a target-driven sales environment. You will also need a “can-do”, solutions-focused attitude; nothing is too much trouble for you!

Responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for offering a consistent and outstanding level of customer service
  • Building rapport and trust with customers by engaging with them, and actively anticipating and subsequently meeting their needs
  • Achieve KPIs and sales targets set by RCRM and central support
  • Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the front-of-house area; monitoring and controlling entry to the centre
  • Ensure all customer sales and bookings are managed correctly, assisting customers in their choices; whilst positively and proactively driving retention
  • Assist in the development of programming through innovative ideas and initiating actions to meet the demands of the customers
  • Manage complaints in a sensitive manner, promptly and politely in accordance with company guidelines, escalating where necessary to the relevant people
  • Process and prepare food and drink orders, assisting with service when required
  • Present and sell food and drink stock to customers in a friendly, efficient and timely manner, in line with an established company and legislative standards.
  • Fill and replenish food and drink displays, ensure all food and drink displays are presented, merchandised and priced in line with established standards
  • Receive, store and rotate food and drink deliveries
  • Conduct basic record-keeping tasks, such as temperature checks and wastage records
